How to Warm up for a Round
Have you ever been to a tour event and watched the pros on the range. Did you notice that they pretty much are all doing the same thing?
They start with a sand wedge and select a target about 60-80 yards away and begin by leisurely hitting balls to the target. All they are trying to do is make solid contact and have a relaxed smooth tempo during the swing. They will hit as many balls as it takes to get into a nice tempo groove.
After they have gotten the tempo, they begin to work their way up by practicing with progressively longer clubs. They may not hit every club in their bag. They definitely do not go straight to the driver. They take plenty of time between shots, staying focused on having a good tempo.
The last shots they hit are going to be with the club they will be hitting off the first tee -- it could be a long iron, fairway wood, or driver.
To complete their practice session they finish with chipping and puting to get a good feel for distance and speed on the greens. They focus on feel and do not get caught up in actually making putts or chip shots. Again, they focus on feel..
If you use a similar approach to your pre-round warm up you will certainly see your scores drop.
