Putting
Living in Chicago the weather isn't very condusive for playing golf in January, but I have a simple way to practice my putting stroke. I am trying to work on distance as well as direction. What I use is a hole made out of a piece of black felt fabric. I have cut it into a circle the size of a golf hole (4.25" in diameter).
I place the "hole" in a spot where I can putt with about two feet of room in back of the hole. If the ball goes beyond my two foot range I view that as not reaching my distance goal. But, I also take into consideration if the ball rolled over my virtual hole. It it did then I probably made the putt.
While working on the distance my goal is to get the ball to the hole, but no more than about one and a half feet past. That would leave me for a tap-in if I missed the hole. Remember that balls that don't get to the hole don't seem to go in too often. I want to ball to reach the hole with some speed but not so much that it will jump out if it is rolling too fast.
