Fairway Woods - 3 Problems Areas - Fixed!
If you have trouble hitting your fairway woods from the fairway it could be due to one or more of three common problems, the position of the ball, the shifting of your weight on the backswing, and a controling left side on the swing through the ball.Addressing the ball
When addressing the ball for a shot with your fairway wood, align the ball about two or three inches inside your left heel. This will allow you to sweep the ball off the ground.
Shifting your weight
You must also remember to shift your weight to the right foot during the back swing by turning back with the left shoulder and arm. If possible keep a one piece take away motion.
Control
Lastly, as you begin the forward swing transfer your weight you need to control the left side to allow you to swing through the ball to make consistent contact with the ball.
A simple drill to help with this is to place a tee in front of the ball, about 4 - 6 inches out. When you swing, try to use the tee as a marker as you swing through the ball extending the club to the tee. With practice you should start to hit more accurate and longer shots using your fairway woods.
