Here is a guide as to the proper length of clubs. Use this as a guide and remember your situation could be special and different lengths may be better. This guide takes a measurement from your wrist to the floor. Be sure to measure both wrists and take the average of the two measurements for a "best guess" guide.

How far should you hit the ball? Here is a guide to distances for each club. With club makers able to have their lofts whatever they choose, one club makers 8-iron might have the same loft as anothers 9-iron. So again use this as a guide for know your distances.
